Alcohol Entitlements
Securing an Alcohol Beverage License is both detailed and time consuming. Approval is required from both the city and the state that the establishment is located in. In most cases, it is wise to hire a consultant who is familiar with State and City code to assist with the process.
City approval involves a land use case filing which includes, among other things, property/zoning maps, blueprints, justifications, notifications, and a possible public hearing. In addition to this filing, it is wise to lobby City and Neighborhood Councils, the local Police Department, and any other advisory agencies in the area in order to gather their input and/or secure their support.
In addition to this process, applications must be filed with the State Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control which issues the actual license. This process involves compliance with State code, additional mailings, notifications, as well as consultations with the Department itself.
